Benefits Specialist


JOB DESCRIPTION:

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as an Organizational Representative Payee for active beneficiary caseload.
  • Develops a monthly budget and spending plan for each beneficiary.
  • Makes timely payment of beneficiary’s bills and financial obligations.
  • Keeps detailed financial records for each beneficiary.
  • Facilitates monthly audit of checking accounts for Financial Manager.
  • Assists program membership with navigating through the trial work period.
  • Facilitates financial self-sufficiency of membership.
  • Develops long-term financial goals with membership.
  • Assists membership with applying for financial, medical, and public assistance benefits.
  • Timely reports to all necessary agencies of memberships financial status, i.e. employment status, wage changes, address changes
  • Timely review and processing of new members for services.
  • A complete review of each member’s current benefit status.
  • Prepares all necessary reports as requested by Executive Director.
  • Complies with all agency rules and regulations.
  • Ensures confidentiality of all membership records and information.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides unit coverage as requested and/or to enhance member training.
  • Encourages self-advocacy and the development of natural and community support.
  • Models positive relationships with staff, members and, the larger community.
  • Presents a professional demeanor at work and in the community.
  • Recognizes strengths and helps membership work from and build upon their strengths.
  • Represents the agency in such a way that fosters an understanding of the goals of the Clubhouse Model of Rehabilitation.
  • Adheres to all agency policies and procedures.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned by Executive Director and Director of Day Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree required. One year of experience working in financial management, and/or Medicaid/Medicare benefits and/or as a direct care professional in a program which serves mentally ill, emotionally disturbed and /or developmentally disabled individuals is preferred but not required.

JOB TYPE:
Full-Time, 40 hours/week

WORK LOCATION:
In Person

SCHEDULE:
Typical Hours are Monday-Friday 7am-3pm, or 8am-4pm.

PAY:
$40,000 – $45,000 Per Year
